Anatomy of a rainbow
I had some fun exploring a rainbow in a pool on a recent trip to Minnesota. The colors danced all over the fountain depending upon my angle of approach, then vanished as the sun's rays moved on.

Don't mess with me!
Great Horned Owl. These photos were taken by my son in a park in Fort Benton, Montana. This creature was truly fierce; it flew at his head twice when he got too close to a tree where its baby was trying out its own wings. Click on either photo to see a larger size (see instructions at left.)

Blackfoot River
Taken in the upper Blackfoot Valley, western Montana.
Another of the many dimensions of my home state: the dramatic changes of topography and terrain. These last two photos were taken less than an hour apart. The plains formations in yesterday's post rolled quickly into the climb over the Continental Divide (Rogers Pass), and soon we were dropping into the Blackfoot Valley, the magical place of my youth.
