Blue mountains, breezy sky

Blue mountains, breezy sky, originally uploaded by Bitterroot.

This was taken in the upper Blackfoot Valley in May; this scene is now weathering the parched aridity of a prolonged drought. Behind these mountains burn two large wildfires in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area. These have grown rapidly, 14,900 and 6200 acres respectively as of today. Pray for rain...

I have been praying every day more than once every day for rain, not only for Montana -- but for all of the places on Earth that are so thirsty. The fire at the Gates of the Mountains is totally "unfight-able" it's right next to Mann Gulch, and though it isn't as large as the Ahorn fire in the Bob ... it's likely to blow up with the winds and hot weather we've been having. We can see the 200ft high flames from our house, EO! It's eery. and scary.

Oh M, I've been watching that fire as well. I haunt the USFS web sites to monitor these disasters and just think all the time of you and my family and all the parched souls out there during what should be a beautiful time of year. From what I can tell, there's no end in sight, either.
