Thai Pavilion

This is dedicated to my Tuesday buddy Janice, who explores southwestern Wisconsin with me via bike rides to a different destination every week. One of our recent expeditions was a visit to Olbrich Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin. The exquisite building and gardens shown below were a gift to the people of Wisconsin from the people of Thailand. Every perspective, be it natural or human-made, is a beautiful composition. It is a place of perfect harmony amid flowers, rock, water and wood. This sequence takes you gradually closer and closer to one of the heavenly views that is seen from inside the pavilion.

Wow, that's amazing.

I've always thought the Thai have a rather otherworldly sense of style and design.

Patia, I need to go here again very soon and just sit with every perspective that this work of art has to offer. Every time I've been there before, it has been crowded with tourists; on a cold fall day last week, it was very quiet. That's when the spell was cast!

What was the occasion for such an extraordinary gift, do you know? Your photos of it are wonderful.

Thank you mb! Specifically, it was a gift from the Thai chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association to the University of Wisconsin.

Apparently, this is the only building of its kind (called a sala) in the contiguous USA. There are many of these in Thailand, often found with Buddhist temples but also as way stations for travelers

Oh, yes, visiting touristy spots on cold, gray days is the BEST!
