Salmon River, Idaho
Summer dreams: This is the "River of no Return", the river that Lewis and Clark hoped to follow to get to the Pactfic. Clark found that its rapids were far too violent and turned back to march up the Bitterroot Valley to cross the Bitterroots in an impossibly rugged area. I loved floating this river, not only because of the L&C history, but the subline beauty of the cliffs, woods, and alpine meadows that drifted past us in our kayaks.
