Clearwater River, Montana

Clearwater River, Montana, originally uploaded by Bitterroot.

We're back in western Montana with a mid-winter photo of the Clearwater River locked in ice and snow just south of Seeley Lake. Because March tends toward leaden skies and sullen slush with only a hint of warming, I'm going to move us toward a break in the weather by posting a series of photos that show seasonal extremes. Next up: summer heat.

Comments:
brrr - the tones in this are almost just black and white and bluish gray. evokes the cold of that day. the essence of Montana winter, except you've caught the river on a cloudy day. This is a really good photo, E. Very clear, and well composed. the detail is beautiful, too.

sure am enjoying your latest pics. sorry i don't have time to comment on each and every one of your photos .... each one deserves individual attention. what a neat collection you've made on your blog. this would make a great book, someday on the pristine places of earth. especially your beloved places.
xoxo

Gorgeous pic!

Thank you so much Leesa and Maureen...it's amazing to me that this is actually a color photo! I did nothing to change it to B&W - the day was truly black, white, and gray. Very beautiful that way.
