Dappled sunlight on cliffs
Sunlight warms the grasses and lichens on a cliff face in Kootenai Canyon.

The Bitterroot Mountains have a number of spectacular canyons that provide a wonderful day's hike. Right now fires are burning back in there, but it sounds as though they're bringing these more under control with the cooler weather. We took this hike just a couple of days before the fires began.
